With the support of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Brussels (HKETO, Brussels) and CreateHK, seven Hong Kong comics artists took part in the 50th Angoulême International Comics Festival in France, held on 26-29 January 2023.
The participating artists were Chi-kit Kwong, Chivas Leung, Linus Liu, Pen So, Mimi Szeto, Man Tsang and WAH KEE.
The Hong Kong Arts Centre had booths at the Festival's Manga City and International Rights and Licensing Market under the theme 'Fifteen Fantasies';, a promotion of 15 comics books created in July 2022 under the HK Comics Support Programme organised by the Hong Kong Comics and Animation Federation.
At a reception hosted by HKETO, Brussels on 27 January, Ms Carol Tsang, Assistant Representative of the HKETO, Brussels said that the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government supported the development of comics and animation, which had always been an important and well-loved element of Hong Kong's popular culture. The vibrant creative industry and an excellent system in protecting intellectual property had made Hong Kong an attractive place for talents and artists.
