Hong Kong strengthened innovation and technology ties with Spain and Portugal
The Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry, Professor Sun Dong, led a delegation of representatives from Hong Kong's innovation and technology (I&T) sector on a visit to Spain and Portugal from 3 to 7 March.
The mission aimed to enhance co-operation between Hong Kong and the two countries in I&T, promote Hong Kong's strengths in the sector, and explore overseas business opportunities. The delegation comprised leaders from the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTPC), Cyberport, the Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute, and the Hong Kong Microelectronics Research and Development Institute, alongside representatives from 24 local I&T enterprises and institutions. Our office had the honour to guide and support the delegation during this trip.
During his visit to Barcelona from 3 to 5 March, Professor Sun attended the Mobile World Congress 2025 and delivered a keynote speech at the Global System for Mobile Communications Association (GSMA) Ministerial Programme highlighting Hong Kong's efforts to build a smart city and a digitally inclusive society, bridging the digital divide and fostering innovation. Professor Sun joined the Chinese New Year reception hosted by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Brussels. Addressing an audience of around 150 business and political leaders and I&T executives in Barcelona, he shared Hong Kong's vision and commitment to developing into a global I&T hub.
The delegation then travelled to Lisbon on 6 March, where they engaged with local political, business, and I&T leaders and visited key I&T infrastructure, research institutes, and technology enterprises.
